Twice during the fall semester, MALSA members travel across the state to administer a cost-free practice LSAT exam. The exam is followed by a catered lunch and a law student panel where participants gain helpful insight into the admissions process. This year 22 student members travelled to eight different towns throughout New Mexico (Albuquerque, Farmington, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Portales, Roswell, Santa Fe, and Silver City), to serve a record number of 200 test takers.
To complement its PLSAT initiative, MALSA also organizes admissions workshops for interested applicants and through its Personal Statement Initiative (PSI), prospective applicants are given the opportunity to send their personal statement to a MALSA student panel for review and feedback before final submission of their UNM law school application.
Also during the fall, MALSA conducts a free admissions workshop for the general public. The event is targeted toward prospective applicants who are in the final stages of completing their law school application. The event is a great opportunity to have a personal statement reviewed by a MALSA member, to connect with UNM law students, and to ask questions of the UNM School of Law Admissions and Financial Aid Office.
